    Good and Gracious God

Our society at times feels overburdened with the hard and disastrous things that happen in our lives. Today we ask you to be with us as we mourn the death of the 7 Navy sailors who were killed after their destroyer collided with a Philippine merchant vessel. The name of the Navy Vessel is the Fitzgerald.  Lord, help us to concentrate on the men of the Fitzgerald, the ones that lost their lives, the ones that are left behind and all those who are effected/affected by the crash of this vessel. It occurred at 2:30 am, not a time when people are alert to their surroundings but Christ surrounds them in love.  We ask you, Lord, to help those left behind with the memories so vivid and so hard to comprehend.  Bless these men and their realization that You are always with them.  Bless their families, help them to feel the comfort of belonging to strong men/women who have given their lives to protect us, who have given their lives to create a world safe for many, and who have given their lives so a better world is created for all of us. Help us create a world of peace when men/women no longer have to give their lives for each other but rather build a world that is tolerant and caring to embrace all that we may truly be the Body of Christ.
